Worst College Majors for Your Money
As I sat in a room full of friends discussing future career plans the topic of college degrees arose. A room full of college graduates, with the exception of one or two, exchanged commentary on successes and failures in the world of higher learning. One of the friends, a male, non-college graduate, spoke of wanting to pursue a Bachelor’s degree. “Why would you want to do that?” another friend asked. “You have a good job and no student loan debt. You don’t need a degree!” Several other chimed in with similar comments, almost in unison. At least two friends in the room stated that they had gone back to school after entering their respective career fields for better opportunity, yet had been unsuccessful in transitioning to their “new” careers because the starting salaries in the fields which they had gotten degrees in, didn’t pay as much as the jobs they were currently working in. In addition, of the other three degreed professionals in the room, none were working in an industry relative to their college degrees.

But hence, you are destined to a lifelong, agonizing relationship with Sallie Mae because nobody ever told you how to go about choosing worthwhile degree. “Go to college, so you can get a good job” they said, and so you did. So what now? At this point, the only thing you can do is help the next generation avoid the same pitfall of buying a worthless college degree. Before you send your child off to college, do some research together–it could save you thousands in the future.
